Title
L2815 - Horse and navvy beside Brackley viaduct
Description
L2815 - A navvy poses with a horse beside one of the mighty brick piers of Brackley viaduct, Northamptonshire. It is said that less than three hundred horses were used during the railway's construction: a fraction of those required prior to the days of steam powered machinery. Interestingly, there is a small metal disc on the animal's harness marked with the initials W.S. Presumably, these denote Walter Scott & Co., the contractor responsible for building this section of the line (Contract No.5, Woodford to Brackley).
