Description
High Street, Kelmarsh, 1930-1939. This image is copy photograph of a postcard showing thatched cottages in the High Street, which belonged to the Kelmarsh Hall estate.
Kelmarsh lies 5 miles to the south of Market Harborough. The cottages were devastated by fire on 4th May 1943 leaving all 13 destroyed and 44 people homeless. The cottages were rebuilt in 1948, but tiles replaced the thatch. A boy can be seen drawing water from the communal pump.
