Title
L2850 - Brick arch bridge and permanent way
Description
L2850 - Taken at an unknown location around 1898, this photograph captures the final stages of construction for the Last Main Line. Spanning the twin tracks of the mainline permanent way is a handsome brick arch overbridge. Large quantities of ballast have been piled along the centre of the trackbed: these stones would soon be packed evenly over the sleepers to restrict the movement of the tracks and to help with the drainage of the line.
