Title
L2856 - Navvy Mission Room at Calvert
Description
L2856 - An exterior view of the purpose built timber hut that was provided by the Navvy Mission Society at Calvert, Buckinghamshire. The simplicity of these religious premises was partly due to the fact that it was the local branches of the Society themselves that had to provide much of the money for the building's construction, and secondly because to reach what were thought to be ignorant, godless people the emphasis centred on the 'message' itself, rather than on unnecessary decoration.
