Title
L2431 - Brackley viaduct under construction
Description
L2431 - Photographed looking north on 15.7.1896, this is the impressive Great Central viaduct at Brackley, seen here nearing completion. Built to carry the railway across the Great Ouse and the river's flood plain, the 22 arch 755 foot viaduct was perhaps the most striking piece of architecture on the London Extension. Here, several lines of contractor's temporary railway ferry laden mineral wagons along the valley floor. The building on the left of the picture is Brackley Mill. Regrettably, the viaduct was demolished in 1978.
