Title
Seamless corset, 1875: Cording and lace
Description
Detail of cording and lace from a woman's seamless corset of 1875, made of cotton on a seamless loom. Features hemp twine threading for support.
This corset, in shades of indigo cotton, was made on a corset loom, each half being woven in one piece without the need for pattern cutting and complicated sewing.
Hemp twine is hand threaded through each row of mock saddle stitching to give further support and the finished garment is much more flexible and comfortable than traditionally produced corsets of the same period.
