Detail of lace from a woman's black sateen corset of 1895, made in the USA. Features 40 pre-curved rigid steel bones, and straight busk.
In 1885 a patent was issued for the pre-curved flat steel strips of which 40 are used in this garment. The pre-formed steels are so rigid that this corset can stand up without support and keep its shape perfectly.
