Sportswoman's corset, 1900: Full length view
Description
Woman's Sports corset of 1900, in an avant-garde underbust style. Features a straight busk, long suspenders, and limited areas of boning to allow for more movement.

An avant-garde design for the sportswoman, this short, straight busk front corset from 1900 includes many features and adaptations to make it suitable for wearing for "riding, cycling, tennis and golf."

The corset is cut low under the bust, to allow for full circular arm movement, and high over the hip, for riding side-saddle and to allow the wearer to run and peddle a cycle. Long suspenders are attached to the bottom edge of the garment. The whaleboning is limited to the side seams, where it runs the full depth of the corset, and the stomach panels, where the boning is shorter and contained within the central section of the garment.

The corset is very decorative and has a printed pattern of silver flowers on a black sateen background. The top and bottom of the corset are trimmed with black and cream Barmen edging.
