Title
L2474 - Belgrave & Birstall Station, Leicester
Description
L2474 - Photographed nearing completion around 1898, this is Belgrave & Birstall Station, Leicester. It was built to a standard design that could be found replicated at most of the Line's smaller stations. A covered staircase led down from the brick arch road bridge and brought passengers on to the single 'island' platform. The building in the foreground is the ticket office. Although this station has since been demolished, the site now marks the southern terminus of the Great Central Railway preserved line. Note that the permanent way has not yet been evenly packed with ballast.
