Title
White cotton stay band
Description
Baby's wraparound stay band of 1926, in white cotton interlined with stiff card and wadding. It has stiff, button adjustable shoulder straps, which cross at the centre back.

The use of card is unusual but is probably due to wartime shortages of other, more traditional, stiffening and supporting materials. This style of stay band was first made in 1916 and continued until 1930. The popularity of the Liberty Bodice as a child's undergarment affected sales of stay bands and this style was probably the last to be marketed by the Symington company.
