Title
Tom Elsom, Loughborough
Description
Tom Elsom is sitting on the running board towards the front of the car. Does anyone know who the other men are?
Tom was born in Belchford, Lincs. in 1871. He married Mabel Thornley Staynes, from Ashby de la Zouch, in 1909. Tom began his career as a grocers assistant in Peterborough, and then in Lincoln. By the time he was 40, in 1911, he was living at 65 Mill Street, Loughborough with his wife and son, Reginald Staynes Elsom; Tom Elsom was a grocers manager, probably with Simkin & James Ltd.
By 1926, and probably well before, he was a Director of the company and, that year, purchased 125 Ashby Road, Loughborough. He died there in 1951; his wife continued living there with their unmarried daughter Gertrude until Mables death in 1975.
The Elsoms son, Reginald Staynes Elsom, born in Loughborough, was in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve; he died in 1942, age 32, and is buried in Loughborough Cemetery.
