Title
L2374 - Preparing the site of Rothley Station
Description
L2374 - Photographed looking south around 1897, this is the site of the Great Central's station at Rothley, Leicestershire. The enormous quantity of rock may well have been excavated from a nearby cutting, and would probably later have been broken down to use as hard core for the trackbed of the permanent way. Note the water tower beside the building at the centre of the picture, and the plume of white steam rising from a contractor's locomotive.
