Title
L2207 - Junction with the Metropolitan & Great Central Joint Line, West Hampstead
Description
L2207 - This junction at West Hampstead is where the Great Central parted company with the Metropolitan Railway, and the London Extension carried on alone towards its terminus at Marylebone. At just under two miles long, this final leg of the Last Main Line was by some margin the shortest of the seven contracts allocated for the railway's construction. That said, building a railway through the capital proved to be no small undertaking, and this section of the Line (Contract No.7, built by J.T. Firbank) was easily the most expensive. On the left of the photograph is a Metropolitan brake van.
