Title
High Street and Congregation Church
Description
A coloured postcard of Market Harborough High Street and Congregational Church, around 1910. Visible in the picture are the Town Hall, cattle posts, and the Manor House built by Sir William Norwich in 1738.
On the right of the image can be seen the cattle posts, which prevented the cattle from encroaching onto the pavement when it was market day but these have not survived today. Also on the right hand side further down is the Manor House built by Sir William Norwich of Brampton Ash in 1738. This is arguably one of Harborough's finest Georgian properties, built of brick and decorated with stone pilasters and pediment.
Completing the scene are a horse and cart, several children, a Victorian pillar-box and a gas lamp which was used until 1924 when electricity was introduced.
