Newark Castle stands in Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire. It was originally founded in the mid-12th century by Alexander, the Bishop of Lincoln. It was rebuilt as a stone castle a few decades later. The castle was slighted in 1648 after the English Civil War. It was restored in the 19th century.
