The City Rooms on Hotel Street, Leicester, were built in 1800. They were originally intended to be the city's first hotel, but the building wasn't completed in time. It was originally named the Assembly Rooms, then renamed the Judge's Lodgings in 1817 when the building became owned by the County Justices, and then the County Rooms. It was finally renamed the City Rooms when the building passed ownership to Leicester City Council.
The two statues in the alcoves of the building represent muses of the arts.
