Huntington Tower was all that remained of an 17th century Elizabethan house. Originally known as Lord's Place, it was the residence of Henry, third earl of Huntington. The house had possessed two stone towers, one of which Mary Queen of Scots was alleged to have stayed in. The tower and surrounding buildings were demolished in 1902 as part of a scheme to widen the High Street. During demolition the 18th century brickwork was removed, revealing the original stonework (as seen here).
