The Corn Exchange building stands in the centre of Leicester Market. There have been recorded buildings on the site since at least the 16th century. The original Corn Exchange building was constructed in 1850 and used as a market. In 1856 the architect F. W. Ordish added an upper story and the external staircase, and the building then housed the market's corn exchange.
