Turret Gateway (often called Rupert's Gateway) is a 14th century building standing on Castle View. The gateway guards access from the Newarke to Leicester Castle. Rupert's gateway was a name given to another part of the walls (now demolished), which has attached itself to this gateway. The name derives from Prince Rupert, who attacked Leicester during the siege in 1645. there was formally a 2 story house on top of the gateway, but it was badly damaged during both the siege and riots in the 18th century.
