The chantry building was built around 1350, close to Leicester castle, as a house for a dean or canon working in the Church of the Annunciation. When this church closed it became vicarage of Saint Mary de Castro, then a leather store for Portland shoe factory, and is now a De Montfort University building. In modern times the upper floor (still visible on the photograph) was found to be unsafe and removed.
