A large crowd enjoying the pleasure fair in Humberstone Gate, Leicester, May 1901. The fairs were exceptionally popular during the late 19th century, but became heavily criticised by moral guardians and the people living around the Humberstone Gate area. The fairground rights were eventually bought out by the Council, and the last fair was held in 1904.
