Description
Found at Scalford, Leicestershire.
A cast gilded pommel cap inlaid with niello and enamel. One side decorated with interlacing strands with a median incised line inlaid with niello. Other side has a pair of interlacing creatures. This high-status object would have topped the sword handle of an elite warrior. It is of the highest craftsmanship and the only one of its type outside of the Staffordshire Hoard with enamel decoration.
