Title
Bronze Age Dagger and Scabbard
Description
Found in a shallow pit outside a Bronze Age burial mound near Lockington, Leicestershire, in 1994. Found near two gold armlets and pottery vessels. This very early bronze dagger was buried in a wooden scabbard and fragments survive on the metal surface. The dagger is similar some found in southern England and Brittany. Slight traces of the hilt suggest that it was made from horn or antler. It was possibly imported from Brittany in the Early Bronze Age.
c. 2200-1900 BC.
