Description
From Garendon Abbey. Found in the wall of Garendon Hall. Wooden box has a note saying "Tile, belonging to Garendon Abbey, discovered in a wall during the late alterations to the Hall at Garendon Park 1865"
c. 1190-1220
This is possibly the earliest near complete medieval floor tile in Leicestershire. It is an example of medieval Cistercian floor tile design derived from continental examples.
