Title
Loughborough Market Place Shop Fronts
Description
Two shop fronts in Loughborough market place, late 1880s. Pictured are Duffner's (matchmakers) at no.33, and H. Matthew's (butchers) at no.34. Henry Matthews is standing in the door of his shop with his wife and son. The clock was made by John King (1786-1869), a clock and watch maker who previously owned the shop that became Duffner's. Note how the meat is displayed- health inspectors wouldn't approve of this today!
