Title
Threshing With Flails
Description
Two men thresh grain using flails in a barn. Traditionally a flail was used to manually beat harvested crops to separate the grain from the straw. This was slow, exhausting work; a worker could thresh around 4 bushels (250lbs) a day with this method. By the late 19th century threshing with flails had practically died out, replaced by machinery.
