Description
Late Bronze Age hoard discovered in Welby, 1875
The hoard contains three socketed axes, a small bowl, a sword, five circular mounts, cauldron mounts and a few other pieces. The type of axe has come to be known as a 'Welby Axe'
The hoard contained many objects of continental origin showing that the inhabitants of Bronze Age
Leicestershire were engaged in long distance trade or exchange.
