Title
Early Medieval Pendant
Description
Early medieval gold bracteate pendant showing a man with a drinking horn. It contains unique imagery.

Bracteate pendants are characteristic of the Saxon world and may have had mystical significance. The Scalford example is unique with its depiction of a drinking vessel. It would have been worn on a string of bright beads, possibly with garnet pendants, like those from Sapcote and Shepshed.
