Title
L2252 - Signal box and permanent way at Weekday Cross, Nottingham
Description
L2252 - This photograph, taken on 3.10.1896, shows the construction of the signal box at Weekday Cross Junction, Nottingham. The Great Northern Railway and the Great Central headed south from Nottingham's Victoria Station together, and this junction marked the point at which the rival companies diverged. The picture provides an interesting comparison between the main line permanent way on the left, with chairs affixed to the good quality sleepers, and the contractor's temporary rails on the right, which are muddy and poorly laid. Logan & Hemingway was the firm responsible for building this section of the Railway (Contract No.1, Annesley to Leake).
