Title
L2253 - Constructing the Nottingham viaduct at Drury Hill
Description
L2253 - This fascinating photograph, taken on a rainy day at Drury Hill, shows the construction of the viaduct close to Weekday Cross Junction. The picture provides a wonderful example of the change brought by the railways to the crowded urban streets of Victorian Britain. Threading its way across Nottingham, the second half of this plate girder structure has yet to be hoisted onto the brick abutments. Note the picture framers on the right, and the church spire rising over the city.
