Title
L2280 - Navvies beside the contractor's line at Rugby
Description
L2280 - Seven navvies pose for Newton's camera beside a line of contractor's temporary railway on a tipping bank just north of the River Avon viaduct. These men would most likely have worked for T. Oliver & Son, as this spot marks the north end of Contract No.4, the section of the Last Main Line for which that firm was responsible (Rugby to Woodford). Note the familiar attire of hat, waistcoat and neckerchief; the indispensable items of navvy dress.
