Title
L1813 - Construction of Leicester Central Station
Description
L1813 - Taken around 1897, this is a fascinating view of the arches on which the platforms of Leicester Central Station were built. The track which eventually served these platforms ran along the 'trench' between the two lines of brickwork. Interestingly, the arches themselves are constructed on a viaduct, part of the long structure that carried the London Extension across much of the city. Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton was the contractor responsible for building this section of the Last Main Line (Contract No.2, Leake to Aylestone).
