Title
L1820 - Construction of a girder bridge at South Harrow, Middlesex
Description
L1820 - Construction of a girder overbridge on the Neasden to Northolt line, a section of railway built by T. Oliver & Son between 1901 -1905 to connect the Great Western & Great Central Joint Line with that operated by the Metropolitan & Great Central Joint Committee. The structure is relatively unusual in so far as it has two permanent supports: the weight of a girder bridge is normally taken only by the abutments. Note the poorly laid contractor's rails, and the temporary water tower built to supply the contractor's locomotives.
