Title
L1839 - Steam navvy and contractor's railway near East Leake
Description
L1839 - Thought to have been photographed near East Leake around 1897, this is a superb snapshot of railway construction at the end of the Victorian era. Operating on poorly laid contractor's rails, a steam navvy excavates the cutting, whilst men and horses are busy moving the earth to a line of waiting tipping wagons.
