L1835 - Almost completed, the girder underbridge that carried the London Extension over West Leake Road, close to the station at East Leake. Perhaps asked to pose for Newton's camera, the driver of a horse and cart pauses beneath this imposing structure. Note the bridge's lattice work iron parapet, a typical feature of the Last Main Line. The contractor responsible for this section of the line was Logan & Hemingway.
