Title
L1870 - Girder overbridge at a cutting near Hucknall
Description
L1870 - Built by Logan & Hemingway as part of Contract No.1 (Annesley to Leake), this is the completed lattice girder overbridge at the rock cutting near Hucknall, photographed on 23.4.1898. The wooden boards slung underneath the bridge during its construction would later be removed. The picture is a somewhat stark reminder of the determination shown by the Line's engineers who, above all else, wanted a fast and evenly graded Railway and to that end were prepared to overcome significant physical obstacles.
