Title
L1664 - Great Central Railway station at Charwelton, Northamptonshire
Description
L1664 - A small group pose for Newton's camera at the Great Central Railway station at Charwelton, Northamptonshire, circa 1900. Conceived by Alexander Ross, Chief Engineer of the Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway (later Great Central Railway), this island platform design was a hallmark of the London Extension. Built partly with expansion in mind, these stations were designed to accommodate extra lines of track on either side of the platforms, thereby reducing expense and disruption to the station buildings.
