L1698 - Railway Bridge and Lucy's Mill, Stratford-Upon-Avon
Description
L1698 - One of S. W. A. Newton's photographs taken away from the Great Central Railway, this time taken in Stratford-Upon-Avon. The picture shows the Stratford & Midland Junction Railway bridge over the River Avon, to the south of the town. The present road bridge was built on its piers. L1698 - One of S. W. A. Newton's photographs taken away from the Great Central Railway, this time taken in Stratford-Upon-Avon. The picture shows the Tramway Bridge, built in 1823 from local bricks to carry part of a horse-drawn tramroad that ran between Stratford and Shipston-On-Stour. The route later became part of the Stratford & Midland Junction Railway, but the bridge ceased to be used upon the introduction of locomotive haulage. Both the bridge and the mill in the background (known as Cox's Yard) still stand today.
