Title
L1701 - Temporary contractor's railway New Basford, Nottinghamshire
Description
L1701 - 'Track with rhubarb growing between sleepers' is how S. W. A. Newton described this image. It was taken somewhere in the New Basford district of Nottingham, and shows part of Logan & Hemingway's temporary railway system. The lightly laid track appears to be climbing before disappearing out of view. Logan & Hemingway were the contractors responsible for building the Annesley to East Leake section of the London Extension.

This photograph is possibly that of the temporary contractors line which ran eastwards for a 1/4 of a mile from the Great Northern's Basford & Bulwell Station to a junction with the G.C.R. works.
