Title
L1731 - Underbridge and station platform, Bulwell Common, Nottinghamshire
Description
L1731 - A view of the girder underbridge and platform during the construction of Bulwell Common Station, Nottinghamshire, 1897. To access the station, passengers would walk down a staircase that led from the bridge to the platform. This explains the gap at the centre of the bridge's parapet. As this photograph demonstrates, future expansion was a strong influence in the design chosen by the Line's engineers, and considerable space was left to accommodate extra tracks. Logan & Hemingway was the contractor responsible for building this section of the Railway (Contract No.1, Annesley to Leake).
