Title
L1733 - Junction of contractor's line near Basford, Nottinghamshire
Description
L1733 - Looking north at the temporary contractor's siding to the Great Northern Railway, forking left from the Last Main Line. Taken around 1897, the photograph shows the junctions at Old Basford, 4 km north of Nottingham Victoria Station, where the London Extension passed over the Great Northern. Note the lattice work parapet on the far left of the picture: a typical feature of the Last Main Line. Logan & Hemingway was the contractor responsible for building this section of the Railway (Contract No.1, Annesley to Leake).
