Title
L1789 - Brick arch overbridge and contractor's railway, Buckinghamshire
Description
L1789 - Three arch brick overbridge spans a cutting on the Great Western & Great Central Joint Line in Buckinghamshire, circa 1903. As this photograph demonstrates, because contractor's railway was used so intensively and then quickly lifted and laid down elsewhere, the quality of the track bed and rails was often quite appalling. However, these tracks really were the lifeline of railway construction, tirelessly carrying the huge quantities of men, materials and machinery required for the Last Main Line.
