Title
L1545 - Cutting at Birstall, Leicester
Description
L1545 - Cutting and contractor's railway between Birstall Park and Mowmacre Hill, Leicester, circa 1897. This powerful photograph is a stark reminder of how the railway age changed the face of the British landscape. Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton was the contractor who built this section of the London Extension (Contract No.2, Leake to Aylestone).
