Title
L1550 - Tipping wagons and contractor's railway, Birstall, Leicester
Description
L1550 - Contractor's tipping wagons being loaded next to a 'bed of sand found in a cutting at Birstall', Leicester (S.W.A. Newton's notes). The temporary rails that carried these wagons were a vital component of the Line's construction, bringing men, materials and machinery both to and from the work area. Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton was the contractor responsible for building this section of the Railway (Contract No.2, Leake to Aylestone).
