Title
L1555 - Widening the cutting near the Loudwater tunnel, Buckinghamshire
Description
L1555 - Widening a cutting on the Great Western & Great Central Joint Line. The photograph was taken from above the Loudwater tunnel, Buckinghamshire, circa 1903. It was necessary to widen the cutting because the single line of track which had been in use by just the Great Western, was rendered inadequate by the increase in traffic brought by the Great Central. Work on this later section of the Railway (Northolt Junction to High Wycombe) was carried out by Pauling & Co. of Westminster between 1901 -1905.
