Title
L1557 - Signal box under construction, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire
Description
L1557 - Signal box nearing completion on the Great Western & Great Central Joint Line, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, circa 1904. Beyond is an iron footbridge. The line on the right of the photograph is a section of broad-gauge track, a system used exclusively by the Great Western Railway through part of the nineteenth century. These particular rails have since been converted to standard gauge width, probably during the 1880s. Work on this later part of the London Extension (High Wycombe to Princes Risborough) was carried out by Mackay & Davies of Cardiff.
