Title
L1560 - Supervisor's cabins at a navvy camp near Charwelton, Northamptonshire
Description
L1560 - Supervisor's cabins and gardens at a navvy camp near Charwelton, Northamptonshire, circa 1897. By the time the London Extension was constructed, navvy accommodation had changed considerably since the beginning of the railway age. Hutted camps erected by the contractors had replaced the navvies' more primitive dwellings of the mid nineteenth century. The contractor who built this section of the Railway (Contract No.4 Rugby to Woodford) was T. Oliver & Son.
