Title
L3489 - Local children in Sulgrave
Description
L3489 - A group of local children pose for Newton's lens in Sulgrave, Northamptonshire. Their faces show signs of bewilderment - taken around the turn of the 20th century; it is unlikely that many of them would have seen a camera before, yet alone had their photograph taken with one! Note the clothing typical of the period - the girls wear pinafore dresses, and the boys, short trousers with waistcoats or jackets. An interesting fact about Sulgrave: the Tudor village manor was both built by, and home to the ancestors of first president of the United States George Washington.
