Title
L1593 - Girder bridge carrying the Midland Railway over the London Extension, Leicester
Description
L1593 - Girder overbridge carrying the Midland Railway's Burton branch line over the London Extension near Leicester, circa 1897. Although the bridge did not carry Great Central locomotives, its lattice work iron parapet is characteristic of the Last Main Line. The tracks on the left of the photograph are contractor's temporary rails, and beyond is a line of tipping wagons. This section of the Railway (Contract No.2 Leake to Aylestone) was constructed by Henry Lovatt of Wolverhampton.
