Description
Cavendish House stands in the ground of Abbey Park in Leicester. It was built in the 16th century out of stone from the ruined abbey. In 1613 the building was acquired by William Cavendish, first Earl of Devonshire, who gave the house its name. During the Civil War the building was used as the headquarters of Charles I before the Battle of Naseby in 1645. After the battle it was plundered and which it was plundered and burned by royalist troops.
